Dvorak method Review
The Dvorak (1984) analysis is the worldwide standard for tropical cyclone intensity monitoring in the absence of aircraft reconnaissance and is the most common method of intensity forecasting as well. An important part of the technique is a climatological development rate, which provides a basis for estimating intensity changes.
From The Global Guide of Tropical Cyclone Forecasting, Ch2.3
After the recent event of Typhoon Nock-Ten its rapid change of intensity (?) and the drifing speed, I am wondering how to identify the TC intensity change correctly. From the IR-BD satellite images, they reflect the cloud top temperature which can be used to estimate the intensity of TC by the Dvorak method. I herein wanna to understand more about this method and its recent devolopments.
In the following days, I will summary some of the important facts about this method and its reference.
